ya know, it really bites when someone comes along and gives your favourite song that you wrote a thumbs down on here.. and they never leave comments when they do. so i can only assume they didn't take me seriously when i said i sound like the bastard child of yoko ono and billy corgan.

i do not delude myself into thinking i can sing worth a [profane word of your choice]. i don't delude myself with dreams of playing in a stadium full of people that worship me. all i know is that part of me has to write songs, and until i find someone to sing them for me, i have to do it myself so i can keep writing them.

so anyhow, i don't expect the "thumbs down" people to understand all of that. they're people, and they know what they like and what they don't like. and sometimes they feel the need to say so. it doesn't really matter that they want to hide behind a little thumbs-down icon and not say anything to your face. because one day, when i have a band and i'm not singing and i'm playing at a small club show somewhere, some jerk is going to come up and tell us we suck. who knows, maybe that jerk will be right. and it doesn't matter, really.

the bottom line is that you have to get used to people like that, because they're awfully plentiful in this world. and that's why i think dmusic shouldn't get rid of the "thumbs-down" like i've read in a suggestion in a forum somewhere.

if anything, they should make it bigger.

I think everyone gets automatic thumbs downs, it's messed up. Your right though, a while back I did a show in front of 700 people and at the end of my set they all cheered, a few weeks later I did a show in front of about 200 and most of them looked like they were watching a moron, yelling, 'you suck' and 'get off the stage'. It all depends on the crowd, who really cares.

Tip: don't do shows at wrestling events.

i know exactly how you feel! my voice aint great but what am i supposed to do? not write whats in my heart? no fn way!what i do is completely blow off anybody who talks about my voice as being too short-sighted to see the emotion that went into the song.it works about 75-80% of the time.

i used to be able to sing a lot better once, playing bass and singing in front of several hundred ppl was really cool though 8) (Cool) but the last band i was in my vocals werent so good, and now if I am lucky i can sing for a few minutes before my voice goes totally Poo :( (Frown) the bottom line is - you dont have to be a good singer/guitarist/musician if you can write good songs - a real musician sees past the outlying human limitations Heartbeat ;) (Wink)

But... but... thinking is HARD! If I explain why I didn't like something, I have to think! Ugh, me no think; hurt bad!

Seriously, is a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" any better or worse than some random post that says "u rox!" or "u teh suck!"? I like to think that those icons help eliminate a lot of those types of worthless posts, even if they aren't much help in and of themselves.

Who are you doing this for, anyway? If it's for yourself, then who cares what others think? If it is for others, well, yup. You can't please everyone.
